Sedgwick County Early Childhood Coordinating Council

Parents and community providers are working together to ensure quality services are available to young children, ages pre-birth through eight, and their families in Sedgwick County.

With a focus on young children and their families the Sedgwick County Early Childhood Coordinating Council strives to:

  • Coordinate and support training efforts within the community for families and professionals.
  • Ensure interagency collaboration to facilitate effective and efficient linkages between and across community agencies by sharing of knowledge and resources among community providers.
  • Promote public and legislative awareness of the importance of prevention and early intervention
  • Assist community groups in identifying and reaching out to children and families at risk.
  • Support prevention, services, and education to perinatal population.

The Council has been instrumental in developing methods to help parents more easily identify and access needed services.

  • A common intake form is now accepted by many community agencies, reducing the amount of paperwork families must complete to enroll their child in services,
  • Council members increase public awareness of early intervention programming and community resources by providing presentations and distributing materials throughout Sedgwick County.

Parents, community service providers and other people interested in supporting young children and their faimilies in Sedgwick County are encouraged to participate on the Council.

Across the state, local Interagency Coordinating Councils (ICC) play a key role in providing Infant-Toddler Services (Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) to very young children with developmental delays or disabilities and their families.

The Sedgwick County Early Childhood Coordinating Council serves as the coordinating body for early intervention services in Sedgwick County.
